Frankston South – Victoria – Low Pressure

South East Water has advised that as of 12:30am 4 August 2025, the tap water at Frankston South is not safe to drink without boiling first. (Boil Water Advisory Lifted 6 August 2025)

The advisory is in place because the water pressure in the area has dropped on Sunday 3 August 2025. Low or no water pressure can let dirty water and/or sediment into the water pipes. When water pressure is low, it means the water isn’t flowing strongly through the pipes. Boiling the water kills any contaminants that might be there.

Low water pressure and interruptions to water supply can lead to a build-up of bacteria that can make people sick.

Consumption of unboiled water may lead to diarrhoea, cramps, headaches or other gastro like symptoms.

Infants, children, pregnant women, the elderly and immuno-compromised people are particularly at risk.

Frankston South – Victoria – Turbidity

2006/7: Frankston South (Victoria) – Turbidity 13 NTU (Maximum detection during year)

Chlorine-resistant pathogen reduction: Where filtration alone is used as the water treatment
process to address identified risks from Cryptosporidium and Giardia, it is essential
that filtration is optimised and consequently the target for the turbidity of water leaving
individual filters should be less than 0.2 NTU, and should not exceed 0.5 NTU at any time
Disinfection: A turbidity of less than 1 NTU is desirable at the time of disinfection with
chlorine unless a higher value can be validated in a specific context.

Aesthetic: Based on aesthetic considerations, the turbidity should not exceed 5 NTU at the
consumer’s tap.
