Zip Water Taps Recalled Over Cadmium Contamination Risk

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued a major recall of Zip Water’s ChillTap Extra range after testing revealed potentially dangerous levels of cadmium in drinking water.
The products were sold at major retailers including The Good Guys and Harvey Norman.
The recall, affecting both residential and commercial taps, includes:
- Residential Zip ChillTap Extra tap (CT12XCER2AU)
- Commercial Zip ChillTap Extra tap (CT39XCEC2AU)
- ChillTap Extra Spare Part Kit (99445)
The products were sold between 12 April 2023 and 1 April 2025 and were manufactured in Taiwan.
According to the ACCC, water drawn through the taps may contain cadmium levels above the limit set out in the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (0.002mg/L).
Prolonged exposure to cadmium is linked to serious health issues including kidney damage and bone weakness.
The taps were also sold through Winning Appliances and E&S Trading, as well as plumbing suppliers such as Reece, Samios Plumbing, Tradelink and Cass Bros Building Supplies.
They were also sold at regional outlets such as Ace Gutters Mortdale, Ballarat Plumbing and Ken’s Plumbing Bundaberg.
This recall follows heightened scrutiny of imported plumbing products, with the ACCC warning that suppliers must ensure imported fixtures comply with strict health standards.
Consumers have been urged to stop using the taps immediately and contact Zip Water for a free replacement, which will be installed by a Zip technician.
